Vita Audio Fotoalbum Repertoire


Mezzo-Sopranist of Armenian origin first studied violin, then singing in Moskau with Prof. Margarita Landa at the reknowned Gnessin State Musical College. She enjoyed further training on a special scholarship with the world famous Prof. Elena Obraztsova at the Russian Academy for Theater Arts ( GITIS ).

Her first professional performance took place at the opera studio in Almaty.
She obtained her first engagement as a solist from the "Association for concert programs in Russia" in Moskau. She performed on many of the great stages in Moskau ( for instance the concert hall Russia ) and took part in numerous Radio + TV recordings.
A number of tours led her through several former GUS-countries.

Opera engagements took her for instance to Speyer (Carmen), Prof. Gustav Kuhn invited her to the Tiroler Festspiele in Erl (Walküre and Elektra). Her repertoire comprises for instance of Rossini´s ( La Cenerentola – Angelina ), Mozart´s ( Cosi fan tutte – Dorabella ) as well as Richard Strauss ( Ariadne auf Naxos – Komponist ).

With her wide range of 3,5 octaves, the singer achieves the richness of the Contralto and she can also perform soprano as well as alto parts in concerts and oratorios.

Several times she performed as solist in the Kölner Philharmonie and Beethovenhalle Bonn, for instance in Verdi´s (Requiem), Bach´s (Matthäuspassion), Rossini´s (Petite Messe Solennelle and Stabat Mater) as well as Prokofjew´s (Alexander Newski).

In the cathedrals of Köln, Essen and Altenberg she sang amongst others Anton Dvorak´s (Stabat Mater) and Franz Schmidt´s (Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln).

Ilona Markarova really loves Songs, for instance of Rachmaninov, Tschaikovsky, Strauss and last but not least Mahler.

At present she collaborates with the contemporary composer Wilfried Maria Danner, who dedicated the Liederzyklus on Lyrical basis of Ossip Mandelstam to her.

The artist worked closely with, amongst others, the following Orchestras :
Bolschoi-Theater Minsk, Gürzenich, Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland Pfalz, Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, Bochumer Symphoniker, Philharmonischen Orchester Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the reknowned Choruses of like Kölner Domchor, Philharmonischer Chor Köln,
and various Oratory-Choruses and Tokyo Oratorio Society.

Conductors: Prof. Alexander Anisimov, Prof. Eberhard Metternich, Prof. Horst Meinardus and Prof. Gustav Kuhn.
Since 2011 Mrs. Markarova has also been working as an independant singing teacher.
